Seasonal Positions
Lifeguards and Concessions
The City of Great Bend is accepting applications for lifeguards and concessions for the 2013 summer season at the Wetlands at Great Bend. Candidates must be 16 years of age to be a lifeguard, and 15 years of age to be a concessionaire. Lifeguards must complete lifeguard certification training prior to the beginning of the pool season. Full-Time Employment
Police Officer
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Police Officer. Primary responsibilities include patrol work, assisting with the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. All aspects of police work will be involved, including responding to dispatches, investigations, report preparation, making arrests, issuing citations, etc. This position requires the ability to read, interpret and understand various law enforcement rules and polices, write clear and accurate reports, and communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors and the public. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED. Some college level work in law enforcement is desirable. In addition, candidate must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to achieve basic law enforcement certification by the State of Kansas within one year of appointment. City Clerk/Finance Director
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for the position of City Clerk/Finance Director. Broad responsibilities include the administration and oversight of all accounting and financial policies of the City of Great Bend. Work is audited by an independent firm for conformance to applicable State of Kansas statutes. Specifically, the City Clerk/Finance Director will serve as the general accountant of the City, and is responsible for the collection, custody, and disbursement of all City funds. He/she will be responsible for deposits on a timely basis, of all monies received by the City to the proper account in an official City depository, and pays out such monies only in the manner provided by applicable laws, regulations, and procedures. The City Clerk/Finance Director audits all bills, accounts, and supervises the books and accounts of other officers charged with the receipt and/or disbursement of City funds. He/she also supervises and maintains the City's accounting system for the complete and accurate recording of revenues, expenditures, assets and liabilities of the City. This includes the planning, organizing, and maintenance of central accounting systems including pre-audit, posting of expenditures, accounting controls, fiscal and capital budget, investment programs, bond programs, etc. The City Clerk/Finance Director also prepares monthly and annual financial statements for presentation to the Governing Body, City Administrator, and other City officials. The City Clerk/Finance Director serves as the custodian of all City records, except those required to be kept by other officers of the City. This includes books, papers, deeds, title papers, contracts, judgments, and other records. This person will also maintain a system of record management to insure the orderly filing, retrieval, and destruction or preservation of City records as provided by the laws of the State. Numerous other duties and responsiblities also apply. The position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of municipal finance, budgetary and fund accounting, treasury management, revenue administration, purchasing, data processing, budgeting, comprehensive financial reports, etc. The ability to communicate effectively with the public, staff and Governing Body is essential. A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or public administration is essential. Emphasis should be on governmental finance and accounting. Applicants with a master's degree in accounting or CPA designation are encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should have at least six years of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting. Convention Center Manager
The City of Great Bend is seeking an experienced Convention Center Manager. This position requires excellent marketing and public relations skills, as well as outstanding written and oral communication skills. Candidates must possess a thorough knowledge of organizing, coordinating, and managing of a Convention Center. Primary responsibilities include making arrangements for group meetings, conferences, conventions, tradeshows, community events, etc., and marketing the Great Bend Convention Center both locally and regionally, as well as overseeing the events to ensure they are successful. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree in marketing, business or hospitality or related field and three years of progressively responsible work experience in the administration and management of a convention center. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Service Person I - Water Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I in the Water Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the repair, replacement, and installation of water services. Other duties include flushing and repair of fire hydrants, completing daily work orders for customers, collection and mailing of water samples, etc. Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public, operate certain types of equipment, and perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and possess a valid Kansas driver's license. Some experience in construction and maintenance work is preferable.
