Seasonal Positions

Lifeguards and Concessionaires/Wetlands Water Park
The City of Great Bend Public Lands Department is currently accepting applications for lifeguards and cashiers/concessionaires at the Wetlands at Great Bend for the 2015 summer season. Primary responsibilities for lifeguards include ensuring the safety of all patrons by practicing preventative lifeguarding. Must be familiar with and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility. Must be at least 16 years of age, possess good public relations and communications skills, and be able to obtain lifeguard certification and CPR/first aid certification prior to pool opening. Primary responsibilities for cashiers/concessionaires include operating a cash register, collecting admission or concession fees, balancing cash drawers, preparation of food and drinks sold through the concession area, cleaning, etc. Must be at least 15 years of age. Police Officer/Police Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for Police Officers. Primary responsibilities include patrol work, assisting with the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. All aspects of police work will be involved, including responding to dispatches, investigations, report preparation, making arrests, issuing citations, etc.This position requires the ability to read, interpret and understand various law enforcement rules and policies, write clear and accurate reports, and communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors and the public. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 21 years of age. Some college level work in law enforcement is desirable. In addition, candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to achieve basic law enforcement certification by the State of Kansas within one year of appointment. City Engineer/Administrative Department

The City of Great Bend is seeking applications for a City Engineer. The City Engineer will be responsible for determining and coordinating all municipal engineering projects including plan development, plan review, construction design, surveying and inspection. Also responsible for administering the departmental budget. Requirements include graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and a minimum of four years of progressive civil engineering experience. A Masters degree and/or public sector experience is preferred. Position requires a registered Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Kansas. This is a stable, full-time position that offers an excellent benefit package including health/dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plan, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays and more. Zookeeper/Public Lands Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a zookeeper at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo. This position will be responsible for the daily care, feeding, observation and documentation of the animals in the zoo.Will perform daily routine duties such as feeding and watering zoo animals, animal enrichment, cage and exhibit cleaning, preparation of animal diets, etc. Will also assist with animal medical treatments. Will perform general grounds maintenance such as mowing and trimming, along with the development and maintenance of proper animal housing and habitat. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of animal care in a zoological park setting. Associates Degree in zookeeping, biology, zoology or closely related field will be preferable. Convention and Visitors Bureau Director/Administration
The City of Great Bend, Kansas is seeking a Convention and Visitors Bureau Director for its organization. This individual will plan, coordinate and market activities to enhance the City of Great Bend's image as a destination for meetings, conventions, business and leisure travel, tournaments, tours and events. The Director will be responsible for partnership creation between the CVB, all sectors of the hospitality community, retail, attractions, the general public and the City of Great Bend. Ideal candidates should have experience in areas such as marketing, social media, public relations and customer service. The Director will also oversee the operational aspects of the Great Bend Events Center.  Interested individuals should have a Bachelor's Degree in public relations, marketing, business administration, or other related fields of study or an equivalent combination of experience or training. Previous tourism experience is preferred. The City of Great Bend offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package. The salary range for this position begins at $41,184. Assistant CVB Director/Administration
The City of Great Bend, Kansas is seeking an Assistant Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Director. This individual will assist in planning, coordinating, and marketing activities to enhance the City of Great Bend's image as a destination for meetings, conventions, business and leisure travel, tournaments, tours and events. This position will serve under the direction of the CVB Director. This position will include providing assistance with the management of the Great Bend Events Center. Ideal candidates should have experience in areas such as marketing, social media, public relations and customer service. Interested individuals should have a Bachelor's Degree in public relations, marketing business administration, or other related fields of study, or an equivalent combination of experience or training.
