Lifeguards and Concessionaires/Wetlands at Great Bend
The City of Great Bend Public Lands Department is currently accepting applications for lifeguards and cashiers/concessionaires at the Wetlands at Great Bend for the 2015 summer season. Primary responsibilities for lifeguards include ensuring the safety of all patrons by practicing preventative lifeguarding. Must be familiar with and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility. Must be at least 16 years of age, possess good public relations and communications skills, and be able to obtain lifeguard certification and CPR/first aid certification prior to pool opening.
Primary responsibilities for cashiers/concessionaires include operating a cash register, collecting admission or concession fees, balancing cash drawers, preparation of food and drinks sold through the concession area, cleaning, etc. Must be at least 15 years of age. Should possess good public relations and communications skills. Service Person I / Park Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person 1 for the Department of Public Lands. Primary responsibilities include work related to the care and maintenance of City park facilities. Will perform daily routine duties such as mowing, trimming, tree planting and removal, repair and maintenance of park buildings and equipment, painting, irrigation system repairs, concrete work, ball field maintenance, etc. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED. At least one year’s experience in areas such as construction, plumbing, mechanics, welding, maintenance work, and/or general grounds maintenance is preferable. Requires good public relations skills, the ability to operate equipment such as trucks, mowers, trimmers, etc. Knowledge of chemical applications to park grounds and irrigation systems is desirable. Service Person I / Water Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I in the Water Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting with the repair, replacement, and installation of water services. Other duties include flushing and repair of fire hydrants, completing daily work orders for customers, collection and mailing of water samples, etc. Position requires the ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public, operate certain types of equipment, and perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather conditions. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and possess a valid Kansas driver’s license. Some experience in construction and maintenance work is preferable. Service Person I / Wastewater Treatment Plant
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Water Pollution Control Division. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. This position requires the ability to perform duties such as the cleaning and rehabilitation of sewer lines, utility locates, operation of water tank trucks, water jet cleaners, pumps, and generators, works with the public regarding sewer stoppage complaints, etc. Also assists in performing pump station inspections and maintenance. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in construction work including the operation of equipment is preferred. Position requires a valid Kansas CDL or the ability to obtain a CDL within a specified timeframe. The City of Great Bend, Kansas seeks an experienced and engaged law enforcement professional to lead our Police Department. The Police Chief is responsible for a progressive community-minded department of 30 commissioned officers with four support staff. The Department has strong established relationships with area law enforcement as well as State and Federal agencies. The Department maintains a K-9 unit and partners with the Great Bend School District to support a School Resource Officer. The Chief of Police is engaged in community organizations and is an active member of the City's management team, supporting the entire organization's efforts to serve the Great Bend community while advocating for constant improvement of the City's law enforcement services. Ideal candidates will have: outstanding experience and demonstrated leadership in a similar law enforcement organization; experience and training in command and control of emergency situations; experience directing a community-oriented police department with a strong emphasis on service delivery through partnerships, problem solving and prevention; well developed budget experience; and, the ability to communicate effectively with staff, the public and community officials. Required qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field of study; progressively responsible law enforcement and police experience in a command and administrative capacity; advanced law enforcement training; and a record of effective leadership and cooperation with community members, City administration, and fellow department managers. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The salary range for this position is $53,768 - $97,708, with an attractive benefit package. Residency in Great Bend is required.
